Participation in Community, Social and Civic Activities
We believe that you should have the autonomy and opportunity to do what you want to do, go where you want to go and enjoy what you enjoy. Therefore, we strive to help you access the many supports, programs and activities that can help you reach your social and community participation goals.

Here are some ways in which LHCS can support you in community, social, and civic activities:

Community access and participation: Assistance and support with accessing community facilities, events, and activities. This may include support workers accompanying you to community gatherings, recreational activities, sports clubs, cultural events, and other community-based programs.

Social and recreational activities: Support with engaging in social and recreational activities that align with your interests and preferences. This can include joining clubs, hobby groups, participating in sports, arts and crafts, music, and other leisure activities.

Volunteer work and community engagement: Assistance with finding and engaging in volunteer opportunities or community service initiatives. This can involve working with local organizations, contributing to community projects, and participating in community events or festivals.

Civic engagement and advocacy: Support with participating in civic activities, such as attending community meetings, joining advocacy groups or disability forums, and actively participating in decision-making processes related to disability rights and policies.

Peer support and networking: Access to support groups, peer networks, and social opportunities specifically designed for individuals with disabilities. These groups provide a platform to connect with others, share experiences, and develop meaningful relationships.

Skill development for community participation: Programs and supports to develop skills necessary for community engagement, such as communication skills, social skills, public transport training, and independent living skills.

You can discuss your aspirations for community participation with our coordinator, who can provide guidance on accessing relevant supports and services.
